Make this easy Dollar Tree Valentine Banner!

I don’t usually decorate for Valentine’s, but I found these cute felt hearts at Dollar Tree when we were there picking up some school items for my kids so I snagged them to make this super easy DIY Valentine banner!

I can’t believe it’s already February! Usually, January seems to last YEARS. I always joke with my husband, Eric, that the only good thing about January is that it’s his birth month. Anyone else? But this year it flew by and now we’re celebrating Valentine’s Day!

Valentine’s Day: Fun Tradition or Made-Up Holiday?

I’ve always thought Valentine’s Day was a fun holiday, especially when I was in school and you got to pick out those fun themed cards. I enjoyed writing my classmates’ names on them to distribute during class.

We usually decorated a cute little bag or made a mailbox or something fun to put the cards in. I always felt special reading the cards my friends gave me. Now I get to do it with my kids and I still enjoy sitting down and helping them fill out their cards!

Eric, on the other hand, hates Valentine’s Day! He says it’s a made-up holiday intended to make people spend money! LOL! But he still makes a point of buying me and my daughter bouquets of flowers and making us feel special.

I think my favorite part about Valentine’s Day, though, is that it means spring is just around the corner! I am one of those gals who would be thrilled to say goodbye to winter as soon as Christmas is over!

So back to this DIY Valentine banner!

SUPPLIES:

Package of felt hearts
Jute string
Scissors

DIRECTIONS:

I purchased one package of the felt hearts. Can I just say I love Dollar Tree? The package contained a total of 8 hearts; 3 pink, 3 red, and 2 white. We already had the jute string so this project cost a whopping one dollar!

I laid the hearts out in the pattern I wanted. I knew I wanted to hang the banner across my built-in hutch so I measured the string accordingly.

After cutting the jute I began stringing the hearts on one-by-one. At first, I just put it through one hole, but when it was finished and hung, the hearts were sideways and it looked weird.

I removed them and decided to string them through two of the holes going in from behind and weaving it back through. Much better!

I strung it across the hutch and held it in place with some décor already on the shelf. I changed out my winter décor with a red candle, a distressed mason jar and a little red pinch pot my daughter made me. Isn’t it cute? I love little handmade gifts from my kiddos!

The Valentine banner and those few (FREE!) changes will most likely be the extent of my decorating for the holiday! But it was a fun and easy DIY and it brought a smile to my kiddo’s faces when they saw it so I’m glad I took the time to make it!

What about you? Do you decorate for Valentine’s Day? I’d love to hear your fun Valentine traditions in the comments!
